ZAC'S TODDLER BEDROOM

Wednesday 17 August 2016

A couple of months ago we decided it was time to move Zac out of his crib and into a big boy bed. We had been putting it off as long as possible, mainly because he slept so well in his crib and because I was nervous about him getting up a million times through out the night. But alas, the time came when he was starting to get too big to sleep comfortably in it and so we made the transition.

Noel and I had talked a bit about his first bed being a car shaped one and so we took him to the bed shop and they actually had a car bed in the window. Zac was going crazy for it before we even entered the shop and so we knew we were making the right decision. We spent ages in there while Zac played on the bed and spun it’s wheels. We bought it that night and carted it home to put together (which was an actual nightmare and ended up taking a few days and the manufacturer had to come out and put it together for us because it was SO complicated and bits kept breaking… I’m so glad that is in the past now)..

Once the bed was finally set up, I decided Zac’s room needed a bit of a redo. We have so many toys in this house that I pulled every single one out and laid them on the floor to look over and carefully decide which ones would stay and which ones would go. I wanted the majority of Zac’s toys to be in his room and displayed in a way that was easy for him to see and access what he wanted to play with. I also had to make sure that his room didn’t look cluttered and that the system would allow a quick and easy pack up at the end of the day. I had white cube shelves already and figured they would be perfect to hold his toys. I also went over to our local op shop and bought a heap of wicker baskets to store smaller toys and his car collection. And arranging his room the way I have, there is a big open space on his bedroom floor for him to stretch out and play. It’s colourful, fun and we’re all really pleased with how it has turned out. I think it is perfect for his age..

My mum bought this kitchen for the boys for Easter instead of giving them chocolate. It gets used every day and Zac’s favourite thing to do with it right now is hide in the fridge and jump out and scare us.

I had this sign custom made and was actually planning on using it in our backyard play space but ended up hanging it on Zac’s wall. It’s one of my favourite things in his room.

The shelf at the top of Zac’s wardrobe is the perfect place to park all of his ride on trains and bikes.

We bought this Gro Clock which is meant to help little ones stay in bed until a reasonable hour. At night time the face changes to a sleeping star with a blue background and then in the morning the star wakes up and turns into the yellow sun (you pre-program the time to suit your family. We have it set to ‘wake up’ at 7am). I’ve heard so many great things about it however Zac is still getting up during the night and coming into our room. But i’m not giving up on it just yet.
